Volkswagen have thrown open the doors of their mad laboratory again and managed to produce an even more menacing Golf GTI.

The brand new Golf GTI TCR, which is available to order now, is due to hit showrooms up and down the country in March.

Taking its inspiration from the two –time Touring Car Racing Series champion, the TCR targets anyone who feels that the GTI is just a bit sluggish.

From an aesthetical perspective the exterior is as mean as you would expect from a tuned up GTI, the TCR will feature 18 inch “Quaranta” alloys and TCR branding on the rear and throughout the interior styling.

However, all this exterior refinement may be lost on you when it goes whizzing past thanks to the improvements which have been made under the bonnet.

Producing 290PS through its 7-speed DSG gearbox the TCR can achieve a 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds at a top speed of 164mph.

But with great speed comes great cooling and recovery. Which is why it will also feature an all-new and improved cooling system, two water radiators and high-performance brakes.

Regardless of whether you plump for a 3 or a 5 door model, the TCR will feature a four cylinder 16-valve engine with a petrol particulate filter and a combined consumption of 42.2mpg, while producing CO2 levels of 153 g/km.

Other features surrounding the latest model off the Golf production line are TCR branding projected on to the pavement when you open the doors, a leather multi-function steering wheel

But that’s not all, you can also slap on a load of extras if you want! Get 19” Reifnitz alloys, lowered suspension fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control.

Also, in a first for the GTI range, the TCR will be available in a Pure Grey paint which you can couple with the optional striking honeycomb decals and black roof.

So how much is this incredible speed demon going to cost? Well the three-door Golf GTI TCR will start from £34,315, whereas it’s five-door counterpart will being from £34,790.

We’ll see you in March shouting “just shut up and take my money!”
