VW California Campervan Community - updated

By Swansway Motor Group 06-04-2018

Are you a California dreamer? The lure of the open road and the freedom to be spontaneous make the Volkswagen California Campervan irresistible to many of us.

The latest Volkswagen California campervans have a prestigious pedigree, following in the footsteps of the completely iconic split screen campervans, but today’s Beach and Ocean models have fans just like their predecessors and they get everywhere!

We love the VW California and we love the people who own them; they’re passionate, knowledgeable and love an adventure. Here’s some of our favourite photos of amazing trips; tips on great places to camp and recommendations for great accessories from some of our VW California friends.  We’d love you to share your adventures and tips here too.

This amazing photo is courtesy of our awesome customer, Dale Lucas; taken Summer 2017, in Grindenwald, Switzerland, when Dale and son George, took a road trip to Croatia.

Please send in your photos, tips and questions; you can do this by commenting on this post or by contacting us here.

Here are some more of Dale Lucas' amazing photos from his road trip.

Dale and his VW California Beach are next off to Barcelona and he's promised to send us some more stunning photos of his adventure.

David Wilson is another intrepid VW California adventurer, he drives the Ocean model and went on a 73 day road trip which took him to; Holland, Belgium, France, Andorra, Spain, Gibraltar, Italy, San Marino, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, back through Germany and France to the UK.

David set off on this epic adventure with his partner Jennifer and syas he found the Ocean's fridge invaluable in a hot climate, whilst the heater was a lifesaver when the pair encountered freezing weather in Poland.

David's number one tip is:

Don't worry about finding places to stay, you'll always find somewhere. Lorry parks at service stations can be just as comfortable, and often quieter, than expensive campsites.

Another tip from one who knows; if you need wi-fi desparately, head to the nearest McDonalds where you get one hour of free wi-fi!

Here's Jennifer getting ready for their epic journey.

During their adventure the pair travelled as far South as Gibraltar and as far to the East as Jaslo in Poland!

They have embarked on another epic journey, driving through France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China before returning through Russia, the Baltic states Germany and France.

They truly are intrpeid adventurers and here's the latest photos from their marathon road trip, which they started on 2nd April.

Steve and Ann Horsdfall are Cali lovers too!

Dave is a complete convert:

We've loved every minute of the first year with our Cali and couldn’t have envisaged camping in December, but the Beach was cosy and warm. We've travelled more than we ever have and visited places we wouldn’t have thought of. This year we're going on a to Spain in May starting with the Portsmouth-Santander ferry, followed by a slow meander back through France via Geneva. Can’t wait!

Steve and Ann's firs trip was to take their VW Cali Beach to the Beach!

Esther and Jame Sabin habe been off adverturing in their Cali, bamed 'Bertie'!

This is what Esther had to say abouth their latest trip:

We'd definitely recommend the Scottish islands; it's easy to get across there with a Hopscoth ticket on the Caledonian MaCbrayne ferries, everyone calls them Calmac! Great value and you can choose from different routes.

After 12 nights sleeping in 'Bertie' we're sad to be leaving.
