Volkswagen plans to provide the free software to its customers ‘around every twelve weeks’

These updates had only previously been available for customers who had been registered as part of the ‘ID. First Movers Club’, but it’s now being opened up to all owners of the firm’s ID. modelsVolkswagen plans to provide the free software to its customers ‘around every twelve weeks’ as a way of both keeping these vehicles up to date and providing a better customer experience.

Customers will be able to add services and functions to their car when desired, too. For instance, Travel Assist could be installed ahead of a long journey, while the battery’s performance could be improved when needed too. Ralf Brandstätter, Volkswagen CEO, said: “Full availability of our Over-the-Air Updates underlines the innovative capacity of Volkswagen and forms the basis for a completely new, digital customer experience.”

The first update centres around the ID. Light system, which incorporates a light at the bottom of the windscreen. After the update, it can give drivers information about how they could be saving energy while driving, as well as giving added assistance through the automatic distance control when using cruise control.
