Volkswagen electric vehicle range has been expanded
The Volkswagen electric vehicle range has been expanded through the introduction of the ID.5 and ID.5 GTX.
The models are essentially sleeker-looking versions of the firm’s ID.4 SUV, and will have a choice of two outputs. A 77kWh battery can provide a range of over 310 miles, while its 135kW charging capacity means a 0-80 per cent top up takes less than 30 minutes.
The ID.5 gets the latest on-board technology from VW too, such as improved charging and better voice control. This also means the ID.5 can use ‘swarm data’, which can warn other drivers of approaching hazards.
Performance car fans will want the GTX, which utilises a dual-motor setup that brings all-wheel-drive, a 295bhp output and 0-60mph time of 6.1 seconds.
The cabin is similar to that found in the ID.4, with a large central touchscreen in the middle of the dash and largely button-free layout. Rear headroom dips slightly on account of the sloping roofline, and is 12mm down on the ID.4.
Both the ID.5 and ID.5 GTX are expected to go on sale in the UK early next year, with prices and specifications revealed nearer to the time.
