Volkswagen’s range of commercial vehicles is surprisingly varied. From trucks to ultra-practical vans, there’s something to suit nearly all jobs. A wide-sweeping series of engines ensures that buyers have plenty of choice when it comes to powertrains, too.
As a result, there’s a lot to talk about. So let’s dive straight in and check out what Volkswagen’s range of Commercial vehicles has to offer.
Caddy
The line-up kicks off with the Caddy. Renewed for 2021, it’s more practical than ever before, making it a sure-fire hit with buyers who want a small van for all situations. The Caddy Cargo is the true workhorse of the range, but it comes with a variety of features such as a multi-function steering wheel, a sliding side door and a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen.
A more domestic-friendly Caddy Life version is also available, bringing glass side windows and a practical yet well-made cabin.
Transporter
The Transporter has been a key part of Volkswagen’s Commercial line-up for some time now. The new Transporter 6.1 aims to build on this with a sharper exterior look and a wider range of driver assistance systems.
There’s only one powertrain on offer - a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel - but it’s available in a variety of different outputs.
ABT e-Transporter
If you’re after an electric van, then Volkswagen has you covered. Working in collaboration with established tuners ABT, it created the e-Transporter, a fully electric version of the firm’s famous van. With a range of 82 miles it’s a great option for inner-city van drivers and it’s available in either panel or combi van layouts.
Don’t think that because it’s electric the e-Transporter lacks practicality credentials; it still features a payload capacity of up to 996kg.
Crafter
The Crafter is the largest van currently offered by Volkswagen, delivering a huge load area and an ultra-long wheelbase which enable it to deal with larger items and all manner of circumstances. Available as a panel van as well as a single cab, Luton, tipper and dropside, there really is a Crafter for any job.
It brings a payload capacity of up to 2,573kg and a maximum load length of 4,855. If you want space, then the Crafter is the van to go for.
Amarok
The Amarok is seen as one of the most driver-friendly pick-up trucks available on the market today. Thanks to a punchy V6 turbocharged diesel it’s also one of the quickest, yet this performance is backed by good handling characteristics and surprisingly refined suspension.
But the Amarok still ticks the boxes when it comes to usability. A large load area and an excellent towing capacity of up to 3,000kg help the Amarok to perform in all situations.
California
The California is a well-known name in the camper van world thanks to its ability to bring a home-away-from-home experience in a van which remains easy to drive. The latest California is by far the most accomplished yet, with good levels of interior equipment and a cleverly thought out cabin design.
A new Grand California - based on the Crafter - has also been introduced, giving buyers an even more spacious camping option.

Caravelle
The Caravelle is a more people moving-focused version of the Transporter which comes with plenty of seating. It’s a great option for small taxi hire firms or airport shuttles, though larger families might find it a good fit thanks to its outright spaciousness.
Plus, since it’s based on the Transporter, it remains good to drive and comes with the same punchy 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine.
