Take A VW Camper Van Road Trip With The Volkswagen California Ocean
The Volkswagen camper van has come a long way since it first appeared on UK roads in 1954. For six decades, it’s travelled the world as a trusty companion to families and friends. It’s equally of use as a place of work, a holiday home or a quirky way of getting from A to Z.
At Swansway Group, we’re happy to offer 4 locations throughout the Northwest, Midlands and North Wales where you can get your hands on a brand new or quality used Volkswagen camper van.
With a creditable 45.6 mpg, the 2.0 TDI Bluemotion Tech Ocean or Beach 150 VW camper van can travel a little over 800 miles on just one full tank of diesel. That’s enough to journey from Swansway Group’s most northerly VW Van Centre in Preston to the UK’s surfing capital in Newquay… and back again!
So, grab your shorts and your surfboard, and jump on board our Volkswagen California Ocean camper van for a Swansway Group road trip to the beach. That’s Fistral Beach in Newquay!
Don’t forget to visit our colleagues at Swansway Group’s VW Van Centres in Liverpool, Wrexham and Birmingham as you pass through.
Take your time in your holiday home on wheels, stopping of as much or as little as you want along the way. We’ve gathered together details of some great local attractions en route.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Grab some friends and family, and off we go!
Refresh yourself with a stop off at Astley Hall in Chorley – a Grade I listed historic house, complete with art gallery and museum, and set within stunning Victorian gardens.
Setting off from Swansway’s VW Van Centre in Preston, head south on the M6, enjoying the views over the stunning Ribble Valley.
Take a short detour, westbound on the M62, to call in with our friends at the VW Van Centre in Liverpool. Why not take this chance to examine your Volkswagen California Ocean more closely? This premium camper van allows you to travel in comfort and style. Try out some of the clever features like the electrically powered aluminium pop-up roof and blackout window blinds.
While you’re in Merseyside, discover Liverpool’s World Heritage Site locations, dotted throughout the city – The Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Albert Dock, to name but a few.
Back in your camper van, head across to the Wirral via tunnels or bridge. Travel along the M53 and A483 to Wrexham, stopping off at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet to grab a bargain. Catch a film, or entertain yourself with a game of golf or bowling at the adjacent Coliseum Leisure Park.
Before you know it, you’ll have reached Swansway Group’s VW Van Centre in Wrexham. Please give the team our very best regards as you ask them to give your camper van the once over. Perhaps you can ask them to talk you through how the folding table (which comes with two chairs) attaches to the sliding door to make a comfortable seating area.
From here, it’s just a hop, skip and jump along the A41 towards Birmingham. Take time out for a little diversion and dive off the track to Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom: the home of Shropshire’s big cats, meerkats, skunks and many other unusual beasts.
If your passengers aren’t too busy enjoying the five-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system in your camper van, please wave to our friends as you pass the VW Van Centre in Birmingham. With CD player and radio, eight-speaker sound system and Bluetooth®, AUX and SD connectivity, you’ll be forgiven for not wanting to stop.
Off again, along the A441 to Cadbury World: a museum dedicated to the making of chocolate. Need we say more?
If you can fit yourselves and all that tasty chocolate back into your VW camper van, head back along the A38 to catch the southbound M5. Don’t forget to take a break between junctions 11a and 12 for Gloucester Services, possibly one of the UK’s best motorway service areas. This is the halfway point so make the most of your refreshments.
Aboard your VW California Ocean once again, following the M5 to the end. Weston-Super Mare provides an excellent rest point, especially if you head down to Marine Parade and the Sand Sculpture Festival. Open from 14th of April until the end of September, this crazy world of sandy creations is a must-see!
Don’t worry if the traffic is bad as you head further towards Newquay. The sun is no doubt shining and the VW California Ocean’s Start/Stop system will maintain low fuel consumption in queuing traffic. Three-zone automatic, programmable climate control will keep you and your passengers from overheating.
Time permitting, you might have chance for a bit of culture as you pass through Exeter. The Gothic architecture of Exeter Cathedral is stunning. Your visit might even coincide with one of the many concerts and events that make use of the fabulous acoustics in this beautiful building.
We’ve plumped for the A30 route from Exeter to Newquay, skirting the edges of Dartmoor National Park and ploughing straight on over Bodmin Moor. You could equally choose the A38.
Bodmin itself provides the opportunity to let off some steam (literally) at Cornwall’s Premier Steam Railway. If trains and engineering is your thing, this could be just the ticket!
On the home straight now. Branch off the A30 to the A392 which will soon lead you to your destination. Make sure you park your VW California Ocean appropriately, with a view of the Atlantic Ocean to reward you for your trip.
At Fistral Beach, you’ll find sun, sea and sand, what else could you ask for? A comfortable VW camper van in which to spend your holiday, of course! With your VW California Ocean you’ve plenty of room for four people to sleep – a double bed in the pop-up roof and a rear bench that converts into a two-person bed.
Enjoy your stay. Remember, thanks to the Volkswagen California’s 80-litre fuel tank, you’ll still have enough fuel in your tank to make the return trip to Preston… if you can ever drag yourself away from the beach life!
