The most reliable cars in the UK have been revealed in new research revealed this week.

The Toyota RAV4, Lexus RX Hybrid and Honda Jazz have all topped the investigation which was conducted by consumer magazine What Car?, with each model awarded a 100 per cent reliability following the analysis of data from nearly 13,000 vehicle owners.

The Lexus is the most recent model of the three, having arrived in the UK in 2016, while the Toyota in question is the 2013-2019 generation. The Honda, meanwhile, is the 2008-2015 model.

The 2011-2020 Toyota Yaris came in fourth place with a score 99.6 per cent, followed by the 2014-present Lexus NX Hybrid model which returned a 99.3 per cent reliability score.

The first non-Japanese car to feature on the list was the Dacia Duster, which had a 99 per cent reliability score.

Mark Pearson, What Car?’s used cars editor, said:

Reliability is one of the key concerns for most used buyers, because an unreliable car can quickly turn into an unwelcome headache.Fortunately, our top 50 list, combined with our online used car marketplace, takes the hassle out of finding a dependable secondhand car.

Drivers of cars up to eight years old were asked if they had experienced any faults with their cars over the past 12 months and which area was affected. They were also asked how much the issue cost to repair and how long the vehicle was kept off the road as a result.

Across the top 50 cars, 21 per cent of owners reporter an issue. The most common issues were non-engine electric problems.

In 68 per cent of cases, the repair costs were covered by the warranty while 36 per cent of owners saw their cars fixed within a day.
