The five best motoring events to attend in 2022

Summer is nearly here, and with the improved chances of good weather comes the UK’s events season.

Here we’ve highlighted five of the best motoring events to cater to all tastes.

Summer is nearly here, and with the improved chances of good weather comes the UK’s events season.

For motoring fans, it’s the best time of year to get out and about and see whatever automotive delights float your boat – whether that be motorsports, modern supercars or classics.

Brooklands Festival of Motorsport

Brooklands is a great place to visit at any time of year, as it’s home to Mercedes-Benz World. You can have a look around for free, get up close to some cool cars, or pay for driving experiences.

However, in June the Brooklands Festival of Motorsport is an even better time to visit. Across the weekend, visitors will see speed trials and other driving challenges featuring cars of the past and present. A Concours event will also see entrants’ vehicles checked over by a panel of judges.

Brooklands, Surrey – June 18-19

Prices from £18.10 for adults

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Arguably the ultimate automotive event, people flock from around the world to the gorgeous Goodwood estate in the rolling Sussex hills to see some of the world’s most exciting machinery.

Here you’ll find everything from Formula 1 cars to drift machines, the latest hypercars to pre-war classics – all of which can be seen driving up the famous hill climb.

A weekend ticket is easily justified here as it’s almost impossible to take everything in in just one day.

Goodwood, Chichester, West Sussex – June 23-26

If you want a motoring event that has something for everyone, CarFest is a great place to start. This year’s event has a whopping seven festivals under one roof – or rather, across multiple fields.

There’s music, celebrities, fun for kids of all ages, adventure sports and plenty of food to name but a few areas. You’ll also, unsurprisingly, find plenty of cars on display, with motorsport legends and road-going vehicles of all shapes, sizes and ages.

The event is hosted by former Top Gear presenter Chris Evans, and its primary goal is to raise money for charities, including Teenage Cancer Trust and Comic Relief.

Bolesworth Estate, Cheshire – July 22-24 / Laverstoke Park Farm, Overton, Hampshire – August 26-28

Prices from £77.70 for an adult day ticket

Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Formula 1 has never been more popular. The success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive series, plus last season's incredibly close title race and a new era of cars has people flocking to races like never before.

And few tracks have the history of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, where you can go to watch Lewis Hamilton and George Russell attempting to overhaul the deficit they’re facing early in the season.

Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire – July 1-2

Prices from £115 for an adult day ticket

Hagerty 2022 Festival of the Unexceptional

While most events draw crowds in by bringing some of the most impressive automobiles the world has ever seen, Hagerty’s Festival of the Unexceptional has a completely different concept.

It’s a wonderful idea that has proved hugely popular with British car fans, as it brings normal cars from all eras together, celebrating cars that the average person has a personal connection with, rather than multi-million-pound models that will forever be out of reach.

Grimsthorpe Castle, Lincolnshire – July 30

Prices: £20 per vehicle
