The e-208 has already seen great success, so can this larger e-2008 go one better? We’ve been finding out.

What is it?

Peugeot is well into the swing of things when it comes to electrification. In fact, battery power is being applied to all manner of vehicles in its line-up and the e-2008 aims to be one of the most rounded in terms of range, practicality and value for money.

The e-208 has already seen great success, so can this larger e-2008 go one better? We’ve been finding out.

What’s new?

The Peugoet e-2008 forms part of Peugeot’s policy to offer each model with a variety of powertrains. So that means that as well as petrol and diesel options, there’s this fully-electric model. Fortunately, very little is changed elsewhere in terms of design, so this could be a great option for those who want an EV which doesn’t shout about its battery-powered setup.

Inside, we’ve got Peugeot’s latest cabin architecture with plenty of equipment - but more on that later.

What’s under the bonnet?

The e-2008 uses a 100kW electric motor which is linked with a 50kWh battery. In fact, it’s the same setup that you’ll find in the smaller e-208, which is why the slightly heavier e-2008 brings a range of 206 miles, rather than the 217 miles you’ll get in the e-208.

The e-2008 also benefits from the ability to charge at up to 100kW, meaning that an 80 per cent charge could be achieved in just 30 minutes. Connect it to a 7kW home wallbox and a full charge will take around seven and a half hours.

How does it look?

As we’ve already highlighted, the styling of the e-2008 is pretty conventional. That’s not to say it’s boring, it’s just that it doesn’t give any indication that it has a battery-powered setup. In fact, the overall styling of the e-2008 is really striking, with loads of cool-looking elements that help it stand out from the crowd.

The blade-style daytime running lights are also a strong design point, as is the intricate front grille.

What’s it like inside?

The inside of the e-2008 is a really pleasant place to be thanks to plenty of good materials and generally sound ergonomics. There’s a decent amount of space for those sitting in the back, too, while headroom is plentiful as well.

When it comes to boot space, there’s 434 litres on offer as standard, rising to 1,467 litres with the rear seats folded flat. In fact, that’s the same as you’ll find in the petrol-powered 2008, so there’s no space penalty for choosing the battery-powered model.

What’s the spec like?

As with most Peugeots, there’s a good attitude towards value with the e-2008. All cars get 16-inch alloy wheels and automatic air conditioning, as well as rear parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers.

Move up to top-spec GT Premium grade and you’ll find features such as 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels added, alongside an Alcantara interior and adaptive cruise control.

Verdict

The e-2008 is a very appealing addition to the EV segment. It’s just as practical as petrol and diesel-powered versions, but brings those lower running costs that you’ll only get with an EV. It also looks good, with relatively understated looks.

Inside, the level of equipment that you get as standard is impressive, while its starting price of £32,000 makes it a very compelling option.
