The 5 New Year's Resolutions to stick to when looking for a new job

It's a new year and we're all busy writing down our top To-Do's for 2018. Many of us will have 'wake up earlier,' 'join the gym' or maybe even 'learn French' but when the only item on your list is to find a new job  it can be overwhelming to know where to start so here’s a few tips from us.

  1. Don't be afraid of starting afresh

As a family owned and run business, we always ensure that our new recruits are given full, extensive training in their new roles. You’ll be introduced to your new team and won’t be left alone until you’re fully comfortable. We’re with you at every step of the way and don’t expect you to come in on Day 1 and take the reins without any guidance.

You also don't need to worry about 'previous experience' for many of the roles.  For us, experience can be anything from going the extra mile to help a customer reach an item on the top shelf or helping a colleague log in on their first day; we believe that a willingness to help others whenever and wherever you can shows you have just the right customer focused attitude we are looking for.

  1. Choose a company for their values

Like all families, Swansway Group has its own way of doing things and everything we do revolves around our values of caring, honest and proud. These aren’t just words dreamt up by an advertising agency or picked by the directors; these values were chosen by Swansway family members to describe what our company means.

We care about each other like families do. We're honest, transparent and proud to work for an award-winning business. You know that moment when a customer or colleague sends you a ‘Thank You’ card, or your cheeks hurt from smiling so much with your new team? That's the Swansway feeling!

  1. Make sure you can maintain a healthy work-life balance

Nobody wants that permanent ‘Monday morning mood’ so for us keeping on top of your work-life balance is a biggie.

Leaving on time, taking your lunch break away from your desk and not bringing work home with you is crucial. It can be easy to get swamped by your workload but the hours can sometimes be long, so we encourage all of our employees to take their time of to rest, relax and recharge.

  1. Look at what's in it for you

At Swansway Group we all work in such close-knit teams and really appreciate the efforts our colleagues go to every day to help one another so it's important to us to make sure everyone feels valued and appreciated.

We offer a range of perks and benefits especially for our Swansway Family, including a company car scheme, childcare vouchers and perhaps the best, an extra day off per year for your Birthday! There's a bunch of the fun stuff, followed by the basics and all topped off with as much tea and coffee as you can drink. You're not just starting a new job at Swansway Group, you're joining the family so we want to give you a warm welcome!

  1. Enjoy yourself

Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker? Each member of our Swansway Family members have different interests to the next. We understand that everyone has a life outside of work, so whether you’re a professional dancer, an Olympian athlete or a budding actress, we’d love to hear all about your stories.

Work takes up a significant part of your week, so it's important to have a great relationship with your colleagues. Being able to speak to each other openly and having a sense of humour will make a huge difference to your attitude at work. When you relate to those around you your whole personality can change and it's much easier to work together as a team to deliver great results.

Remember, no question is a silly question and no idea is a bad idea. So don't be afraid to speak up, you never know – you could have your eureka moment.

Now we know considering a new career can be a scary thought, but with a little support and guidance, a positive attitude and a 'can do' mindset, what's stopping you? If you're currently on the lookout for the perfect role to suit you, why not browse our current vacancies here.
