Meet the New SEAT Tarraco

Meet the New SEAT Tarraco

October is set to be the month of the new release at SEAT. The Spanish manufacturing giants are set to unveil their brand new flagship SUV at the Paris Motor Show later in the month.

Following on the back of the rest of the SEAT range the new SUV also takes its name from a Spanish city, in this case it was the turn of Tarragona.

The new arrival is set to be a range topper for SEAT and will be available in both five and seven-seater versions making it the largest SUV SEAT have made. Although the UK market will only be able to get their hands on the seven seater model.

The Tarraco will be available to order in the UK towards the end of 2018, so what will you be ordering if you decide to take a punt on the latest of the SEAT familia?

Well firstly SEAT tell us that the new large SUV will take the best details from its smaller siblings, the Arona and Ateca. But straight away there’s been a rethink at the front, the grille has been redesigned giving it more of a robust feel. Framing the new grille are LED headlights which are also incumbent at the rear including ‘animated’ tail-lamps.

So how's it look?

SEAT have been quick to state that while the Tarraco is placed as a large SUV, it certainly won’t behave like one. They’ve ensured that the stylish, sporty & inspiring mantra which is following this release is adhered to with some awesome 20” alloys, to add the sporty element, while the stylish features don’t just stop at the redesigned exterior.

The dash has had a rethink and, from the launch images, we can see there are accents of wood effect in the interior detailing. But the main event of the interior has to be the new 8” floating infotainment touchscreen which, as we reported earlier in the year, will feature Amazon Alexa as part of the SEAT Media Control.

Staying with the all-new impressive dash, the Tarraco will also benefit from an addition straight out of the VW Group school of tech. A 10.25” digital display screen will sit behind the steering wheel, the likes of which we’ve seen recently in the Tiguan, Touareg and T-Roc amongst other models.

Where does it sit?

As we said earlier the UK market will only have access to the seven seater model which will place it in direct competition with the Skoda Kodiaq, Ford Edge and its VW Group stablemate the Tiguan Allspace. As you would imagine in this modern society of intelligent interior storage the seats in the Tarraco will slide, fold, sit flat to the floor, everything but spin round and sing you a song really!

If you were to forego the choral integrity of the upholstery and simply use it to sit on and adjust accordingly then you would be able to get 700L space with the third, and final row of seating folded. But if you fold down the rear seats too you would get a whopping 1775L of space. Perfect for those overzealous, spontaneous visits to the garden centre, or a similarly tricksy trip out to a Swedish furniture store which shall remain nameless!

SEAT will be releasing two petrol versions, a two wheel drive 1.5L producing 148bhp and a 2.0L version which will get 187bhp and have four wheel drive capabilities. There will also be two 2.0L diesels in the Tarraco range while SEAT have also confirmed that there is a view to have plug-in hybrid technology versions added to the new range in the future.

Finishing off the range, we’re reliably informed, will be an FR performance model which we’re told will lead the field in terms of sportiness. We’re not sure how true that will turn out to be. However, what we do know is that the Tarraco completes the line up in terms of brand accessibility from a SEAT perspective. From the diminutive Mii through the impressive Leon and Ibiza completing their hatchback representation the Arona and Ateca have seen SEAT improve their standing in the booming SUV market, but the large SUV scene is one that they haven’t been able to frequent thus far.

Having already amassed bumper sales through 2018, the introduction of the Tarraco could spell event more success for the Catalonians.

Keep your eyes peeled on the Swansway SEAT page for upcoming launch dates and more info on how can order your first SEAT large SUV.
