There’s a world of difference - not to mention two generations - between the first ever Jaguar XJ and the current model.

Over the years, the car has attracted a wide variety of owners, often very unlike the image of the ‘typical’ XJ driver. Infotainment system of 1968 and 2017 Jaguar XJ

AM radio only, available as an option. Radios weren’t fitted as standard to the Jaguar XJ until 1985! Here’s what the system fitted to one of the first cars looked like.

Jaguar state-of-the-art infotainment system, InControl Touch Pro, featuring:

  • InControl apps to connect a smartphone with the vehicle Touchscreen
  • personalisable Touchscreen control
  • high-definition virtual instrument display on 12.3” TFT screen
  • choice of four pre-set display themes, or full screen navigation with 3D mapping
  • rear-seat entertainment system featuring individually deployable 10.2 inch HD screens (optional)
  • The original XJ was the last Jaguar saloon to feature design input from company founder Sir William Lyons.
  • It became a familiar fixture on many TV programmes, especially detective and thriller shows, including:

    • - The Protectors
    • - The Sweeney
    • - The Professionals, and
    • - Inspector Morse
  • A total of 98,227 cars of Series 1 - including XJ6, XJ12, Daimler Sovereign and Daimler Double Six were produced.
  • “The latest Jaguar XJ looks like no other XJ before it.” - Autocar. It’s the work of design director Ian Callum.
  • Jaguar has sponsored the BAFTA Britannia Awards in Los Angeles, as part of efforts to raise its profile in the entertainment industry.
  • Between 2014 and 2016, just short of 5,600 XJs were sold across Europe. But nearly twice as many - 10,774 - found homes in the US*.
