The compact crossover segment is a very popular one at the moment. Buyers are attracted to the familiar, yet rugged looks and high driving position, among other features. The strong demand for these cars has caused more than a few manufacturers to start making at least one of them.
So, with that in mind, which small SUVs are best? Here’s five…
SEAT Arona
The Seat Arona is undoubtedly a class-leader contender. Whereas some crossovers make compromises over their hatchback counterparts, the Arona is a different story. It drives well, is practical, attractive and gets some good kit – there’s not much to complain about here.

Fiat 500X
Those who love the 500 supermini’s charms but would prefer those lovable qualities wrapped up in a more family-friendly crossover, take a look at this – the 500X. It’s got tons of character and utilises a range of economical engines.
Citroen C3 Aircross
The quirky C3 Aircross is a fantastic choice. The small SUV is surprisingly practical, as well as being extremely comfortable, with well-cushioned seats and an effortless ride – a perfect car for family holidays.
Audi Q2
For something with that added premium quality, consider the stylish Audi Q2. It’s refined, well-built and can be had with some great tech, such as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, which replaces traditional dials with a high-quality screen.
Volkswagen T-Cross
Another funky entry into the compact crossover class is this – the Volkswagen T-Cross. The spacious, yet compact SUV certainly stands out from the crowd thanks to muscular looks and bold stance.
