Electric and hybrid emerge as the most popular fuel types in online searches

These stats show the growth of alternatively fuelled vehicles

You only need to look at the roads to see the growing number of electrified models going on sale.

This is reflected in both the increasing amount of electric chargers dotted around the country, and also in the boosted sales that these vehicles have recently recorded.

According to new research by automotive digital marketing specialists Honcho, it’s also being reflected in Google searches, too.

Data from the firm shows that searches for electric vehicles increased by 55.5 per cent during the first nine months of 2019 year-on-year, with hybrids also rising in search popularity by 26.2 per cent.

In comparison, searches for both petrol and diesel vehicles sales fall — seeing drops of four and 13.7 per cent respectively.

Jack Minot, SEO Manager at Honcho, said: “Our analysis suggests consumers are showing a growing interest in EVs and hybrids during their car buying journey.

“We believe this reflects a curiosity to find out what’s available and the price points, among buyers who might not have previously considered alternatives to petrol and diesel, as well as buyers starting out with a clear intent to buy an electrified car.”

According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, sales of EVs increased by 122 per cent during the first nine months of 2019, with much of this demand being attributed to the new Tesla Model 3. New hybrid registrations also increased by 15.3 per cent.
