CUPRA introduces the e-HYBRID versions of well-loved models, the fastest Leon Estate yet, as well as a new powertrain choice for the Formentor.

CUPRA is continuing its rapid model expansion as it introduces e-HYBRID versions of well-loved models, the fastest Leon Estate yet as well as a new powertrain choice for the Formentor.

Both the Leon and Leon Estate will now see e-HYBRID models added to the range. Under the bonnet of both vehicles is a 1.4-litre petrol engine that is linked to an electric motor and 13kWh battery. Both models have a range of up to 37 miles of all-electric power.

The Leon Estate’s new engine is a 2.0-litre petrol unit with a 306bhp output and 400Nm of torque. It gets an automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive, and is only available in the high-specification VZ2 and VZ3 trim levels. Prices start at £38,475 and £40,535 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Formentor has a new plug-in hybrid option that brings the price of entry for electrified models down to £35,770. It makes 201bhp and becomes the most efficient model in the range, registering 235mpg with CO2 emissions of just 27g/km and an electric-only range of 37 miles.

This will be particularly appealing to business buyers as that low CO2 figure contributes to a benefit-in-kind rate of just 11g/km.

As well as the hybrid, the Formentor also gets two new versions of its 2.0-litre petrol engine. The first is offered on the entry level V1 and V2 trim levels, making 187bhp and getting all-wheel-drive and an automatic gearbox.

The second has the same gearbox but instead has front wheel drive, makes 242bhp and is offered on the higher VZ1 trim. These models start at £32,000 and £34,155 respectively.

The Formentor has a decent level of equipment as standard, including 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, a digital instrument display, 12-inch navigation system, adaptive cruise control and more.
