The self-driving, electric saloon car has been described as a ‘living sculpture’ by its designers and is thought to give a strong indication as to what the next-generation of A8 will look like.

It also incorporates full Level 4 autonomous driving capability, though drivers are able to choose if they want the car to do the driving or if they want to take control themselves. At the press of a button, a steering wheel appears out of the dashboard to allow the driver to pilot the car, or they can be stowed away when self-driving is preferred.

A whole range of connectivity features are included and can handle the parking of the vehicle as well as charging, while the owner’s music can be seamlessly accessed through a huge touchscreen.  A lack of B-pillar also adds space to the cabin, while the doors are programmed to automatically open when the driver or passengers approach. A range of sustainable materials have been used throughout the Grandsphere, with the interior made entirely from recycled raw materials.

Underneath, there’s a 120kWh battery, which is said to provide a range of ‘more than 750km (466 miles) while the ability to charge at speeds of up to 270kW means that the battery could be taken from five to 80 per cent in 25 minutes.
