The two SUVs are similar, but there are a few key differences to note.

It’s no secret that Audi has quite a lot of models in its line-up and, while this is undoubtedly a good thing – giving buyers plenty of choice – they sometimes need explaining.

Take the Q7 and the Q8 for example. Both are very practical, capable and large SUVs that are fairly similar, but have key differences that set them apart.

Here’s a few…

Look and image

Both are arguably great looking cars. Sleek and modern, the pair have a definite presence out on the road.

But, in terms of the focus of its design, it’s the Q7 that’s been built with greater practicality in mind. The Q8 is focused more on style, as it has a sportier appearance, with sleek yet muscular detailing.

Practicality

Speaking of the Q7’s practicality, it is the more family-friendly option out of the two.

For instance, all Q7s – facelift onwards – come with seven-seats as standard, which is handy. It’s also got a larger boot, offering an amazing 865 litres of space with the third row folded down – the Q8 still has a fairly massive 605-litre boot, though.

Engine

In terms of engines, two engines are shared, while the Q7 receives an extra option.

The motors available with both models are the 50 TDI and 55 TFSI petrol. The 50 TDI a 3.0-litre V6 diesel powerplant offering a great blend of performance and economy, with the the 55 TFSI providing more power and improved performance.

Offered on the Q7 only, however, is a lower-powered diesel unit badged 45 TDI – it acts as a fantastic entry-level option.

Price

Being the more stylish, desirable and luxurious of the couple, the Q8 is naturally going to be a tad more expensive.

That’s not to say it’s not good value for money though – you do get a lot of bang for your buck. To be exact, the Q8 is priced from £67,010, which isn’t actually that bad compared to rivals.

The Q7, on the other hand, is cheaper at £56,310, but is, nonetheless, a great deal.
