Audi previews S variants of standard e-tron and Sportback

Audi has previewed sporty S versions of its e-tron and e-tron Sportback electric SUVs.

The models will feature three electric motors, compared to the regular iterations’ two-motor setup, with one located on the front axle and two at the rear. Combined, they produce up to 496bhp and 973Nm of torque for up to eight seconds at full throttle.

Normal driving results in a combined output of the motors to be 429bhp and 808Nm of torque.

In addition, these S versions get retuned steering, wider tyres on all four corners and a stiffer suspension setup with firmer bushings.

Compared with 88 per cent on the standard e-tron cars, the S models are able to access 91 per cent of on-board battery power. It’s expected that the weight of the additional motor will have a slight effect on range, although Audi is yet to release official figures.

It’s worth noting that the normal e-tron is said to go between 209 and 280 miles on a single charge depending on the model.

The German manufacturer is currently referring to these new S versions as ‘concepts’, with a strong chance they’ll make their way into showrooms in production form. However, no official release date has been announced as of yet.
